The United States team took first place in the medal table at the Pan American Games, which ended on November 5 in Santiago, Chile.
American athletes occupy first place in number of medals for the seventeenth time. However, this year they achieved fewer podiums than four years ago in Lima.

American athletes in Chile won 286 medals: 124 gold, 75 silver and 87 bronze. In 2019, Americans won 293 medals. Medal tables for sporting events traditionally take into account the gold, silver and bronze of the teams.
They are followed in the medal table: Brazil – 205 medals, Mexico – 142, Canada – 164, Colombia – 101, Chile – 79, Argentina – 75, Cuba – 69.

The United States women’s softball, water polo and rugby sevens teams helped their team surpass the number of gold medals received in previous Pan American Games.
Among the sports stars who distinguished themselves in Chile are the American wrestler Kyle Snyder, the Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade and the Canadian swimmer Maggie McNeil, who won gold medals.
The Pan American Games are the largest sporting event in the Americas. Athletes competed in 39 sports. This year participation in the Paris Olympic Games was at stake. Approximately 7,000 athletes participated in the games.
The next Pan American Games will be held in four years in the Colombian city of Barranquilla.
