The president’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said there is “reason to believe” another American detained by Hamas will be released on Sunday.
“We have reason to believe that one of the Americans will be released today,” Sullivan told NBC.
Sullivan declined to name the hostage who could be freed. When asked if she could be the four-year-old girl whose parents were killed, he said, “We have an idea who she is, but I can’t be more specific.”
Israel and Hamas agreed to exchange 50 hostages held by militants for 150 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons during a four-day truce.
To date, Hamas has freed 26 Israelis and four Thais held hostage.
Israel freed 78 Palestinians.
Egypt, which is facilitating the truce, said it had received lists of 13 Israelis and 39 Palestinians scheduled for release on Sunday.
This is the first break in the conflict since Hamas militants attacked southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking around 240 hostages.
