US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived in Delhi on what became his ninth official visit to the Indo-Pacific region.
Austin met with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh as the two countries expand military-industrial cooperation, improve the interoperability of their militaries and foster innovation among their defense industrial bases.
The defense chiefs will also participate in an expanded dialogue with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Austin and Blinken will then meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The visit comes against the backdrop of significant successes between India and the United States in developing cooperation in the military-industrial sphere and innovation in the field of defense technologies.
“This has been an important and vibrant year of engagement between the United States and India, with our National Security Advisors in January, the Minister’s visit to Delhi in June, Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Washington in June and then the visit from President Biden to India in September. attend the summit,” said a senior military officer.
“And I don’t think we’re done,” the official said. “All of this is to say that there is a lot going on in the US-India defense relationship right now.”
