President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday discussed the possibility of humanitarian “tactical pauses” during the fighting in Gaza, as well as ways to free hostages.
This was announced by the Strategic Communications Coordinator of the National Security Council, John Kirby, highlighting that the governments of the United States and Israel will continue contacts on the issue of humanitarian pauses and that Biden and Netanyahu agreed to return to negotiations in the coming days. .
“You can expect us to continue to advocate for temporary, localized pauses in hostilities,” Kirby told reporters. “We believe we are at the beginning of this conversation, not the end.”
According to Kirby, negotiations on this issue are continuing, particularly as more Americans are expected to leave Gaza and also as more humanitarian aid arrives there.
Biden and Netanyahu also discussed the situation in the West Bank.
“We know that more trucks are needed. So far it’s just a trickle,” Kirby said. “We need to get more people out (of Gaza). (And now it’s) still a trickle.”
