Local election officials in at least five states have received suspicious letters containing fentanyl or other substances, and authorities are trying to identify the sender.
This is yet another example of the threats that poll workers across the country face.
Election authorities in California, Georgia, Nevada, Oregon and Washington appear to have been targeted.
The Pierce County Assessor’s Office in Tacoma, Washington, released photos of the letter it received, showing it was sent from Portland, Oregon. A visible part of the letter read: “Stop the elections immediately.”
Authorities are also trying to intercept a letter sent to the Fulton County (Georgia) elections office, the largest electoral jurisdiction in one of the most important swing states in the presidential campaign.
