Hundreds of American Jewish activists gathered at the foot of the Statue of Liberty in New York, demanding that Israel declare a ceasefire and stop “bombings” of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The protesters wore black T-shirts with the slogans “Jews demand an immediate ceasefire” and “Not in our name.”
They unfurled banners reading “The world is watching” and “Palestinians must be free” at the base of one of New York’s main landmarks.
The enormous copper statue is located on Liberty Island, at the entrance to New York Harbor.
