Protesters demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip blocked bridges on both US coasts, including a major bridge in San Francisco, where a global trade summit with President Joe Biden and other world leaders is taking place.
Authorities arrested eighty people and towed 29 cars after protesters blocked all lanes of traffic on the bridge’s upper deck and some drivers threw their keys into the bay.
There was an hours-long traffic jam on the bridge after more than 200 protesters demanded Biden call for an immediate ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.
The President came to the city to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Conference.
Meanwhile, in Boston, about 100 protesters stopped traffic on the bridge connecting the city to Cambridge for more than two hours.
They shouted “Cease fire immediately” and held a banner that said “Jews demand a ceasefire immediately!”
Protesters called on Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren to take more action to stop the fighting.
