The United States does not believe that the pro-Iran Palestinian militant group Hamas can participate in the future government of the Gaza Strip once the war with Israel ends, the White House has said.
This was stated by the spokesman for the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, in a conversation with journalists.
As the United States and its allies and partners discuss post-war options for the Gaza Strip, Kirby said remaining in Hamas hands would be problematic after the movement’s militants killed 1,400 people in southern Israel on October 7.
“We truly believe that Hamas cannot be the future of governance in Gaza. “He can’t,” Kirby said. – What will happen after the conflict? “We don’t have all the answers yet, but we and our partners in the region are trying to understand what a governance system in Gaza could and should look like.”
