The United States has spent 96 percent of the more than $60 billion allocated to help Ukraine since the start of the Russian aggression, White House spokesman John Kirby said.
This amount, according to Kirby, includes funds for defense, financial, economic and humanitarian purposes. If we talk only about the costs of military assistance, then 90 percent of the allocated funds have already been spent.
“The Department of Defense has approximately $1.1 billion left to resupply for the winter. “The runway is getting shorter, so we need to approve this additional request,” Kirby added, referring to the new aid package for Ukraine being discussed in Congress.
President Joe Biden is asking Congress for another $61.4 billion in aid for Ukraine.
Biden proposes approving this amount as part of a single $106 billion package. The rest will go to help Israel, Taiwan, protecting the border with Mexico and humanitarian needs, but the House of Representatives insists on a separate tranche for Israel.
Biden threatened to veto the bill if it does not contain funds for Ukraine.
