Following the meeting, the White House issued a statement saying the sides “discussed the current situation in the Gaza Strip following a recent phone call between President Biden and Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.”
According to the statement, “The United States and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed the urgent need to increase humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza and emphasized the importance of working toward sustainable peace between Israelis and Palestinians, building on the work already underway between Saudi Arabia. and the United States in recent months.”
Both sides also affirmed “the importance of curbing the desire of any state or non-state actor to expand the conflict.”
Sullivan discussed with the Saudi Minister of Defense ongoing efforts to strengthen the defense partnership between the two countries, which Sullivan said has “served as a cornerstone of regional stability and deterrence for decades.”
A statement after the meeting said the United States “reaffirmed President Biden’s commitment to supporting the defense of American partners against threats from state and non-state actors, including those backed by Iran.”
Regarding the situation in Yemen, Sullivan welcomed the significant de-escalation of the conflict over the past year and a half and supported Saudi Arabia’s efforts to completely end the war in Yemen.
