Three armed drones were shot down on Tuesday while repelling two attacks on the Erbil airport in northern Iraq. Let us remind you that American troops and other international forces are stationed here.
The incident was reported by the Iraqi Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service.
The attacks are the latest in a series of attacks against US troops stationed in Iraq and Syria amid rising tensions in the Middle East amid the war between Israel and Hamas.
The group calling itself the Iraqi Islamic Resistance said it attacked the al-Harir military base, about 70 kilometers northeast of Erbil airport.
The air defense system at a military base near the airport provided successful protection against drones, the report said. As a Pentagon spokesperson noted, there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure.
“Coalition forces have been attacked at least 38 times since October 17, (and) most of them did not achieve their objectives, thanks to our strong defenses,” the military official added.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani has vowed to bring to justice those involved in the recent attacks on three military bases in Iraq housing international coalition advisers. These are, in particular, the Ain al-Asad air base, located near the Baghdad international airport, as well as the Al-Harir base in Erbil.
