A meeting was held in Tashkent between Undersecretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Gairat Fozilov.
This was reported in a document published by the State Department on Wednesday.
At the third session of the Uzbekistan-U.S. Strategic Partnership Dialogue (SDP), which took place on November 7 in Tashkent, a number of issues of decisive importance for the development of bilateral relations between the United States and Uzbekistan were raised.
The United States reaffirmed its continued support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Uzbekistan, as well as its support for Uzbekistan’s entry into the World Trade Organization.
The parties exchanged views on regional issues such as continuing humanitarian activities in Afghanistan and strengthening a constructive partnership within the framework of the C5+1 diplomatic format.
The delegations noted the importance of their economic partnership, sharing a commitment to greater growth and diversification of trade and investment, driving reforms in Uzbekistan’s agriculture, women’s economic empowerment and jointly addressing the climate crisis. The American side welcomed the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan to liberalize the economy.
The United States and Uzbekistan signed a bilateral Cultural Property Agreement, strengthening the countries’ diplomatic ties in the fight against the illicit trade in ancient art, artifacts and cultural property.
The delegations intend to continue holding working group meetings at the expert level. The next dialogue on the strategic partnership between the United States and Uzbekistan will be held in Washington in 2024.
