The United States and the United Kingdom on Wednesday introduced additional sanctions against several people linked to Hamas in Turkey and elsewhere.
This was reported by the United States Department of the Treasury.
The sanctions apply to eight Hamas officials who promote Hamas’ interests abroad and participate in the management of its finances, the Ministry of Finance clarifies.
“Hamas continues to rely heavily on networks of well-placed officials and affiliates,” said Brian Nelson, Treasury undersecretary for counterterrorism and financial intelligence.
Several sanctioned Hamas officials are in Türkiye. Among them is one of the group’s key financial dignitaries, Harun Mansour Yaqub Nasser al-Din, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
This is the fourth round of sanctions imposed by the United States against Hamas since its attack on Israel on October 7.
The UK sanctions also target the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group and people involved in a financial network supporting Hamas, including people in Lebanon and Algeria.
“Hamas can have no future in Gaza. “Today’s sanctions against Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad will cut off their access to funding and further isolate them,” said British Foreign Secretary David Cameron.
This is the second round of sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom against Hamas following the October 7 attack.
Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen welcomed the current sanctions and called on other countries to follow the example of the United States and the United Kingdom, “as only persistent and uncompromising fighting will lead to the collapse of the Hamas government.” .
