A US Navy ship sailing near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait shot down a drone launched from Yemen, the US military said.
The approaching drone is the latest threat from the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
US Central Command said the USS Qarni shot down an Iranian-made KAS-04 drone that was launched from a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen on Wednesday and was headed toward a warship.
The ship was operating in the southern part of the Red Sea and was moving towards the strait.
At the time, the Carney was escorting the U.S. fast combat support ship Supply and another U.S.-flagged ship delivering military equipment to the region.
The command noted that no American personnel were injured and the ships did not suffer any damage.
The incident occurred a day after an Iranian drone flew about 1,400 meters from the US aircraft carrier USS Dwight Eisenhower, which was operating in international waters.
