The United States on Wednesday shot down a drone launched from territory controlled by Houthi rebels in response to a signal from a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the southern Red Sea.
This was announced by the United States Central Command on Thursday night.
The US Navy destroyer USS Mason shot down a drone launched from Houthi-controlled areas after the group attacked the commercial ship Ardmore Encounter, the command reported on social media.
A pair of rockets were fired from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, but did not hit the ship, and the Ardmore Encounter was able to continue on its way without further incident, Central Command added.
There were no reports of damage to the ship or injured personnel, the command said.
