Israel is no exception to the US policy that all countries must comply with the laws of war.
This was stated by the State Department after Washington sold around 14,000 tank shells to Israel without consideration from Congress.
The Biden administration on Friday used emergency powers under the Arms Export Control Act to authorize $106.5 million in sales, the Pentagon said Saturday.
The United States expects all countries that receive its military assistance to use it “in full compliance with international humanitarian law and the laws of war, and Israel is no exception,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement. Informative session.
Miller was asked if Washington is evaluating Israel’s compliance with the Biden administration’s conventional arms transfer policies.
Under this policy, the State Department must determine that the weapons are not likely to be used for genocide, crimes against humanity, violations of the Geneva Conventions, or serious violations of international law.
Miller said the State Department had made no such determination and reiterated the US position that Israel could take additional steps in the Gaza conflict to minimize harm to civilians.
