More than 300 Americans have fled the Gaza Strip, but there are still American citizens in the besieged enclave, a White House official said Sunday.
Several Americans remain in the Gaza Strip amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and U.S. authorities continue to make efforts to evacuate them, Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Feiner told CBS.
He did not say how many American citizens were still unable to leave Gaza.
Let us remember that last week the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said that about 400 American citizens and their families intend to leave Gaza, for a total of about 1,000 people.
The evacuation of the wounded from Gaza and foreign passport holders through the Rafah crossing into Egypt has been suspended since Saturday, but Egyptian, American and Qatari officials said efforts were underway to resume them.
Feiner also said that U.S. officials are making every effort to free hostages taken by Hamas militants.
